So Long, Farewell::..

Incredible. Inspiring. Iconic.

Today, the world bids farewell to two remarkable people, who influenced the world and generations that came after them, in more ways than one.

Rest in Perfect Peace Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcett....

Yesterday was Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot--or, in English, Crazy Hat Day. Aaaaaah, got to love the total commitment to tradition! Click HERE for more coverage...

The first annual Arise African Fashion Week is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa this week featuring talented designers from all over the continent. It began on June 15 and will continue until June 19, and today's show features designers from Egypt, Swaziland, South Africa and my home country, Botswana. Africa Fashion International's chairperson, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, demonstrates that African influences have been seen in a number of international designers--as well as the clear influences on élite African designers like Azzedine Alaïa and Ozwald Boateng. Here's hoping that this event will grow in strength and that the continent's most talented minds in every field will collaborate to combine their strengths.

OooOooh, LA LA!

One of the season's most ubiquitous pieces, Yves St. Laurent's Cage Ankle Boot is yet another "victim" of the recession. It's on sale at Barney's--it's now $576.75, down from $1,290. At the moment it's available in sizes 7, 10 and 11 ONLINE

STOP the PReSSes...

They recently gave us their collection with Matthew Williamson and have worked with a number of high-profile designers...and now H&M (i.e. the best thing to come out of Sweden EVER!) is collaborating with JIMMY CHOOOOOOOOOO! Yes, people. Jimmy Choo. No joke. According to their rep, the partnership will include bags, shoes, and accessories for men and women, and a clothing line. It will arrive in stores on Nov. 14. OMG! WHY DID I HAVE TO GRADUATE NOW?!?!?!

UPDATE: Rodarte slideshow

A slideshow of Rodarte's greatest hits (thus far) is now available, courtesy of the lovely journalists at NYMag. Of note: the killer shoes below...

Most little girls I know want to grow up to be princesses. Disney Princesses. This amazing new photo project shows a Grimmer reality (pardon the pun!) of this common fantasy...Click HERE to read about the inspiration behind this future exhibit in the photographer's words.

AND thE (FAsHioN) oScAR GoES tO...

Left: The Mulleavy sisters, who founded their line in 2005.
Right:
McCollough and Hernandez, who started their label in 2002.

Last night's Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA) annual awards--hosted by comedienne, Tracey Ullman--really belonged to young designers, who dominated the traditional awards (in addition to the awards dedicated to newcomers). I can even forgive Rodarte taking away the Womenswear award from my husband, Marc Jacobs, as I absolutely adorrrrrrre their line. Their F09 collection is stunning...Hmmm, maybe I should start a fashion line in my (non-existent) basement with my sister! Beats finding a "real" job....

>>Womenswear: Kate and Laura Mulleavy for RODARTE.

>>Menswear:
Tie: Italo Zucchelli of CALVIN KLEIN and Scott Sternberg of BAND OF OUTSIDERS
>>Accessories: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for PROENZA SCHOULER

>>International Award: Marc Jacobs for LOUIS VUITTON

>>Popular Vote: Ralph Lauren
>>Lifetime Award: Anna Sui

These are among the amazing photos taken by
Scott Schuman (AKA The Sartorialist) on Governor's Island, NYC. As you know, we at Faux Foreigna lurvvv vintage looks--whether authentic or faux--so I couldn't help but drool over these images...It's hard to believe that these photos have been taken over the past few weeks in 2009's NYC. They seem to represent another world...another time in F. Scott Fitzgerald and Edith Wharton's novels. Aaaaaaah, summer!

This Summer is all about investment pieces that channel your creative/artistic side.

Look for an embellished necklace of a kind. Something that makes you stand out. For instance, take this Missoni & Roberto Cavalli stone embellished necklaces... They scream Ethno-chic.
