FasHIOn wEEk...
The first annual Arise African Fashion Week is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa this week featuring talented designers from all over the continent. It began on June 15 and will continue until June 19, and today's show features designers from Egypt, Swaziland, South Africa and my home country, Botswana. Africa Fashion International's chairperson, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, demonstrates that African influences have been seen in a number of international designers--as well as the clear influences on élite African designers like Azzedine Alaïa and Ozwald Boateng. Here's hoping that this event will grow in strength and that the continent's most talented minds in every field will collaborate to combine their strengths.
